PCT SECTION HIKE | DAY 22 Lake Marjorie to Rae Lakes
Miles Hiked: 15.4 miles
Elevation: 3168 ft ascent | 3717 ft descent
It’s an easy pass day, but still one of the longest days. After the short climb up to Pinchot Pass, it is nothing but down to Wood’s Creek Suspension Bridge. I spent the morning hiking with Lauren and Devin. We joined Paola, Christian, and JP for lunch and continue on to the suspension bridge. Today’s hike towards Glen Pass is the opposite of last year, which was cloudy, cold, and raining. Today it is hot, dry, and not a cloud in the sky. From Wood’s Creek, it is a mostly exposed ascent. After Dollar Lake, it is easy going. Beautiful country. Arrowhead Lake. Rae Lakes.
Middle Rae Lakes is the goal today. Deer everywhere—I have yet to see the Rae Lakes bears.
There was a note at the junction for the remaining “Thunder Buddies,” directing us to camp. This is our last camp together as a tramily. JP, Jen, and I are exiting over Kearsarge tomorrow for resupply. I’m taking a zero before finishing at Cottonwood. Devin, Lauren, Paola, and Christian are continuing on the Whitney. Phoebe is staying at Rae Lakes. One more night and then another week solo. I gave my extra food to Devin, fuel to Paola and Christian, and filled my bear can with the group’s trash. It was a good night. Crystal clear skies to watch the stars.
