hi, I’m Ellen

(also known as wayfinder)

FROM THE MIDWEST, TO THE CENTRAL COAST, TO THE PNW. WHAT’S NEXT?

This is who I am: a thirty-something freelance photographer, travel labor/delivery nurse, van lifer, home renovator, and artist. I’m taking on adventures in a new part of the country and attempting to write about it along the way.

Raised in small-town Iowa to parents with a love for photography and nature, summers were spent road-tripping to Colorado to camp and explore. Following nursing school, I started venturing more into hiking, with local hikes in California, as well as longer trips to national parks in the area. As soon as I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I knew I was home. I have found the almost perfect base for exploring—from Glacier and Yellowstone to the North Cascades and Olympics, and everything in between.

Let’s be honest, writing is not my favorite. Blog posts are infrequent and usually backdated a couple months. However, photography motivates each post, as well as the desire to share each adventure. Photography > Words. I have learned so much from pages like this and it is my hope that this website can help someone else find what they are looking for.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
