PCT SECTION HIKE | DAY 4 Stubblefield Canyon Creek to Benson Lake

Miles Hiked: 10.1 miles
Elevation: 2469 ft ascent | 2622 ft descent

Well, we survived the night.

All joking aside, the bear didn’t seem to bother us. Bear cans were completely untouched, per usual, and no one mentioned seeing it again.

Today’s goal is Benson Lake. I’ve been told by multiple people the past few days that it is a great place to camp and has had zero mosquitoes. I felt pretty good for the first climb, passing by the smoldering lightning fire, and then descending into Kerrick Creek. I took a short break down the creek before filling my water. As I made my way back to the trail, I met up with Dan. He had hiked further than planned as well, ending up near where I had planned to stop.

The second climb was more of a challenge for me. I lost the energy that had been pushing me along. I met more southbounders, took my time, enjoyed the small lakes at the top of the climb, and eventually…made it to Benson Lake. The beach was long and filled with spots, but it was windy. I trudged through the soft sand, searching for a spot with some shelter. I eventually found a spot, made camp, and took a dip before it got too cold.
