NEW ADVENTURES
I will start off by saying that writing is not my favorite, so bear with me. This is the third attempt at starting a blog, second time for a website. With that being said, I have never had anything to write about in the past. I still don't really, but it is my hope that this space can turn into someplace to document hikes, traveling, and photography. I don't know what will come of it, but here it goes.
Why Unexpected Adventures? Well, this place needed a name and the name seems to fit. I have always had a love for travel, but the hiking and love for outdoors came a little later. I grew up with parents that loved to drive places. Each year we would load up the car while the moon was still bright and the air was crisp. It was barely the start of a new day—3:00 AM. We would drive the twelve or so hours it took to reach the mountains of Colorado. We camped, we hiked, we explored. Then my brother left for college, and I became a teenage girl that wanted nothing to do with sitting in a car for twelve hours with my parents. The camping stopped at some point.
Mid-way through high school, I moved to Wales for a year abroad. I gained a second set of parents—who were better than I could have ever dreamt. By the end of my stay, we had traveled locally as well as to Turkey and Greece.
By college, I joined GORP, the outdoor recreation program and spent a week canoeing and camping in Wisconsin. The year before that I had traveled to Moldova for a medical internship, with weekend trips to the Ukraine. Then I was off to Romania for archaeology volunteer work.
Once I moved to California, it was impossible to pass up exploring what nature had to offer. From Big Sur to Yosemite to Pinnacles. After my first trip to Yosemite, I was hooked.
Now what? Washington.
A new job and endless opportunities for adventure. Many short term goals, and at least one huge long term goal set for 2018.
My list of Washington trails is steadily growing. Any favorites you would recommend?
