GOLDEN TICKET | JOHN MUIR TRAIL SOBO
After 21 denials and a second rolling lottery application: I found the golden ticket! I won a solo Southbound permit for the John Muir Trail out of Sunrise Lakes in Yosemite.
Now the real planning begins. Itinerary is being adjusted for the 23 days I have to be on the trail. I added extra days in order to really enjoy each part of the trail and spend time “working” on photography and video, as well as time to acclimate to the higher altitude of the Sierra.
I've been able to keep my base weight below 20 pounds, even with a bear canister and photography gear. As the snow melts and longer hikes become accessible, I am hoping to dial my pack list down even more. It will never be ultralight due to the camera gear, but I am aiming for a comfortable and fairly lightweight pack with a total weight under 30-35 pounds.
Let the fun begin!
